What differences do you notice between the Afghan illustrations and those from Brookwood?

The kids in Afghanistan seemed to draw pictures more about their lives and we drew pictures about what we like to do.

I noticed that both sides of illustrations (ours and theirs) had mentions of peace (peace signs, the word written), but I think they had different meanings. Ours might have been the kind of corny peace, that we drew just to decorate our paper and maybe lack of anything else. But some of their peace were things like, "By the name of Allah, give us peace in our country." Their peace seemed more literal, maybe referencing that there is fighting or tension in their country?

I noticed that a lot of the Afghan drawings had some form of peace. I thought that was really interesting!cool

We drew a lot of sports and they drew like praying and cartoons and everyday life things.

I noticed a lot of differences in our drawings. I saw that our drawings were manly about stuff we like to do, like sailing, soccer, and hockey. In the Afgahn photos, they had lots of scenes of everyday life, like praying, going to school, and playing games. I also noticed that our drawings were full scene drawings that took up the whole page, but a lot of their drawings were little pictures, like one of Minnie mouse and one of a horse. Although I saw a lot of similarites, I did think that they were mainly the same idea as ours.

I noticed that many of our pictures included technology like ipods but none of theirs did. Also a lot of ours had sports in them but none of theirs did.

coolHull and Noel, I feel that way too. They drew more about living and what a normal day is like, while we drew a lot about sports, arts and music.

This is a reply to Hull's statement. I completely agree with you, Hull. To add on though, I thought Brookwood students added more pictures about activities like music, or sports, like basket ball and sailing. I saw the Afgan student's pictures and I saw that the characters were just, "hanging out."

I thought that this was very interesting. It shows the differences very well.

I agree with you too. Our pictures look like we have TONS of free time, compared to some of theirs. We also drew lots of pictures of sports in America, and other activities like Will said.

The pictures I saw suprised me. But were diffrent than ours. While we had maybe a couple about family, none about work and relegion. They had lots of images about their family/life, work and relegion. We mostly in ours had sports and such. These are some diffrences I noticed. big grin

Yeah, you are right, hull. We did a lot of sports and activities, and they actually showed a bit of their country, and what is normal in their everyday lives. It is kind of saying that we do sports everyday, which we do. I noticed that there were no pictures of sports in their pictures; only school and where they live. It begs the question, do they have any time for sports? or do they have to do chores to help their families?

Ya, I also agree with Hull, but I also think we had some more materialistic thinks in ours

I noticed that too. It almost makes us look ignorant, we care about recreational games whereas they are caring about peace and religion.

I noticed that some of our drawings had pictures of cities, or houses by the sea and such, while theirs had pictures of mountains and valleys. I also noticed the sports etc vs. praying and everyday life as well.

Differences I noticed in the pictures we drew at brookwood and the pictures from Afghanistan is that a lot of the children there drew about their hopes for peace and change, and their ideas on what that would look like. We drew pictures about our lives, which sort of conveys the idea of peace in the United States.

I noticed that too. The ones that we did had a lot of different things that we liked to do for fun and theirs had a lot of the same type of illustration.
